Miles: Nice. Very nice
Maya: Twelve months in oak. French oak.
Miles: On a Sauvignon Blanc? This is good. Little hints of cloves.

Director Alexander Payne was looking for Sideways filming locations when he stumbled on Fiddlehead and Fiddlestix. Apparently, my 1920’s farm house was too “new” for the scene he had in mind. But then I had him punching down Lollapalooza at the winery and the next thing I knew I was invited for “movie night”…pizza and wine with the Sideways crew (and I thought it was going to be a bunch of winemakers!). How could I not show up with a case of wine? What a thrill to have him fall in love with my wines…enough to have them written into the script and described in detail. Timing and place are everything! ~Kathy
As Maya says, she’s drinking a Fiddlehead Sauvignon Blanc. “I know the winemaker – she comes into the restaurant all the time.” Well, Kathy has been known to enjoy a meal at the Hitching Post II, but really got to know the cast and crew of Sideways during the harvest of 2003. They became good friends to many winemakers, and whenever they turned up at FiddleHeadquarters, we put them to work punching down Pinot! The entire wine community was invited to the movie’s premier – none of us knowing whether our wines, vineyards or ourselves might be included.
The wine sets the bar for the style of Sauvignon that we love - a lively bouquet of fig, pear, pomelo, mineral and fennel which explodes on the palate - with perfectly balanced acidity to intensify the flavors and give a long, long, finish.
